The Indian Experience in South Africa: A month-long extravaganza for the diverse elements of Indian culture providing the opportunity to present varied events and performances
The annual Shared History festival since its inception, has gained huge popularity and become an established brand on Jo’burg’s cultural calendar. In a landmark effort to bring together the arts and cultural heritage of India and South Africa, this month-long extravaganza is a window to contemporary India.
The celebration draws upon the rich traditions of India through collaborations with South African artistes, bands, chefs, craftsmen and through symposia with writers.
A host of workshops and performances by local groups are highlights of the festival, which are staged in multiple locations such as Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town and Pietermaritzburg.
