Anuradha Pal’s ‘Kala Ke Sangh’ to Raise Fund for Marginalised Music Fraternity

Soulful Indian Classical music, those pulsating percussionists, beautiful folk dances & songs, tribal music, traditional Hindustani & Carnatic Jugalbandis, devotional music, the orchestras of Bollywood… what if we never get to enjoy these ever... after this pandemic?

Our lives, weddings & events can never be the same without music, dance, percussion, color and magic? With all performances cancelled and no other earning opportunities’ owing to social distancing norms, the marginalized music fraternity & instrument makers are struggling to survive...

Musicians contribute vibrancy and positivity in every important occasion in India. And yet Artistes are amongst the most ignored community. With no help or support, many face severe existential issues and depression.

Tabla Maestro Anuradha Pal has curated, envisioned and spearheaded this Fundraiser campaign called Kala Ke Sangh (meaning Musical family) to help protect our culture & heritage by helping the Marginalized Music fraternity - i.e. traditional Musicians who carry forth a legacy of classical/ tribal/ bhajan/ folk and traditional music as well as instrument makers, sound technicians etc, who need help urgently.

To raise awareness about the total economic breakdown for marginalised musicians across the country, Anuradha Pals’ organization Sur aaur Saaz (SAS) has curated & produced the FIRST EVER Online 2 day Music Fundraiser festival called Kala Ke Sangh featuring 21 Top Musicians like Bhajan Samrat Anup Jalota, Pt Satish Vyas, Sanjeev & Ashwani Shankar, Anuradha Pal to name a few!! This festival will be shared live on August 1 & 2, on @SASevents page on Facebook to raise donations from 7 lakh followers (including partner pages). Details of this exciting Artist lineup are on www.anuradhapal.com

Project goals-

  1. We wish to raise Rs 37 lakhs to be able to help over 500 marginalized musician families with monthly subsistence and create an online platform on @SASevents & @anuradhapaltabla to promote their music - be it traditional, Folk, tribal, Classical or Devotional music of India.
Anuradhaji has been personally sending Ration kits to marginalized musicians in Mumbai since 5 July and also contributed to the PM Cares fund.
  2. Empower the marginalized musical fraternity by promoting their music online.
  3. SAS is also developing & creating an online platform for these musicians to earn from online concerts in a long-term sustainable model, so that these marginalized musicians can live with self-respect, in these unprecedented, difficult times.
