About I Believe
An advocacy and fundraising initiative, #ArtMatters is committed to the cause of promoting and preserving art and craft - in partnership with UNESCO, FICCI and ICCR. Since its inception in April 2020, #ArtMatters has been working towards creating awareness about the current reality of various artistes across India affected by the Covid-19 crisis and developing support channels for them. Given the large-scale need for financial and policy support in the cultural sector, #ArtMatters worked with multiple partners to produce a fundraising gala by artistes, for artistes called I Believe #ArtMatters held in August 2020. The virtual event brought together a diverse range of performances across music, theatre, dance, and cinema showcasing India’s cultural diversity and its syncretic traditions. It was broadcast across social media platforms to an engaged viewership of over 1,90,000 viewers plus TV audiences who viewed this on the India Ahead news channel. The gala has helped provide much-needed support to artistes and craftspeople, as well as celebrate their craft and tradition by highlighting their stories. This effort helped raise over Rs. 7.5 Million and in the past year Teamwork Arts and Art Matters, in collaboration with 11 partner NGOs, were able to support over 5000 artistes in need across the country.

In light of the tremendous support we received for I Believe I, we are delighted to announce a second edition to be launched later this year, which will lead the way for subsequent events under the #ArtMatters initiative. I Believe II's primary purpose is to provide artistes with an opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary collaborations. Over 30 artistes will be commissioned to create new works or performances in an imaginative partnership with an acclaimed artiste. The creative collaborations could include music, dance, visual art or an artiste working in AI or VR. The year-long programme will commence with a virtual broadcast featuring 10 commissioned acts in addition to launching a brand new video series called Articulate, which aims to spread awareness about artistes and craftspeople across India. We hope that these collaborations will lead to creating outstanding works and allow talented artistes to stay afloat in the new normal.
